Gattuso, the former AC Milan and Napoli coach, has spent recent months traveling across Europe to maintain personal connections with his squad ahead of the World Cup qualifying play-offs, a level of commitment which has clearly resonated with his players. Calafiori, who has recently been plagued by injuries at Arsenal, stressed that the coach had been a constant presence throughout his recovery.
Speaking from Italy’s Coverciano training center, Calafiori gave an insight into the frequency of their exchanges. “In the last few months, I’ve heard more from him than from my mother,” Calafiori said Tuesday.
“When I was away or not playing much, he called me all the time. And dinner with him was great. It gave us the opportunity to be together. It was like a dinner with friends. »
