Paris-Roubaix 2026: The classification of the Monument

To say that the Paris-Roubaix 2026 edition was lively is an understatement as there were so many adventures during the day on Sunday. The series of punctures among the favorites, particularly in the Trouée d’Arenberg, redistributed the cards. The front wheel of Pogacar (UAD) was the first to puncture, 115 km from the finish. It was just before the nightmare experienced by Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech), who had to change bikes 94 km from the line. The only problem was that Philipsen’s pedals did not allow him to clip his shoes… Del Grosso then changed his wheel and the Dutchman left 1’22 behind Tadej Pogacar.

92 km from the finish, the Dutchman suffered another puncture and we thought he would be dropped from the race for victory. Wout Van Aert (Team Visma Lease a Bike) and Tadej Pogacar punctured again, and the gaps narrowed (around 40 seconds).

Van der Poel wanted to win Paris-Roubaix for the 4th time in a row but bad luck got the better of his ambitions. However, he was able to make up part of his delay (30 seconds 40 kilometers from the line and at the finish).

Wout van Aert raised his arms in the Roubaix Vélodrome after running the final 54 kilometers alone alongside Pogacar in a real hand by hand. He was faster in the final sprint, in a festive atmosphere in the Vélodrome. The winner of Milan-San Remo 2020 wins the second Monument of his career. The most beautiful, without a doubt, given his tears upon arrival. He dedicates his victory to his former teammate, Michael Goolaerts, who died of a cardiac arrest during Paris-Roubaix 2018. Tadej Pogacar will have to return to try to win the only Monument missing from his record.
